I specialize in modern Japanese literature, environmental literature with a particular focus on the works of Ishimure Michiko, and explorations of place and space in literature.
My research examines the intersections of narrative, ecology, and cultural expression, especially how literary texts respond to and represent environmental crises. I also analyze representations of place and space in literature in relation to modernity, culture, and identity. In addition, I am interested in world literature and comparative approaches, particularly in fostering East/East literary dialogue between Arabic and Japanese literatures on themes of environmental transformation and traditional societies.
I teach courses in modern Japanese literature, and comparative literature from ecological and Japanese perspectives.
