Takehiro Watanabe is a cultural anthropologist whose research spans contemporary ecological governance and the historical impacts of industry and economy. His recent work focuses on nature-based urban watershed governance, biodiversity conservation, and green infrastructure, particularly community participation in urban river restoration projects in Tokyo, alongside the political ecology of fisheries and wildlife in Hokkaido. Drawing on his broader historical research interests, Watanabe also investigates Japan’s history of mining, labor, and industrial pollution. Furthermore, his scholarship has examined the social dimensions and media representations of the economy.
